Man in custody after drug paraphernalia dumped in Holly Springs creek

— A man was in police custody Saturday after he allegedly threw out drug paraphernalia in a Holly Springs creek while police were executing a search warrant, authorities said.

A spokeswoman for the Cary Police Department said officers from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation responded Saturday to the scene near Optimist Farm Road and Beech Creek Court to help clean up the area. It was not immediately clear what materials were being removed from the area.

The SBI was assisted by a team from South Carolina while investigators worked to clear the area, the spokeswoman said.

Police did not identify the man or disclose what they were looking for when police were executing the search warrant. He was being held Saturday at the Wake County Jail, authorities said.
